Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and password (securely hashed). When you take a test, we store your answers, your results and the name entered for the person taking it on your device and on our servers, including when you are not signed in (those tests are stored without an account until you sign in), so your report can be generated. Age, gender and cultural background, if entered, stay on your device unless you share the result. If you share a result, the test-taker's name and gender, the result, scores and written report are copied to our servers with the share link.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to provide the personality assessment service, display your results, and manage your account. We may use anonymized, aggregated data for research and product improvement. When you share a result, anyone with the link can view it while the link is active, and a recipient can save a copy to their own account. The shared report is rewritten to describe the test-taker by first name and pronoun instead of “you”; the gender entered for the test is used only to choose those pronouns.

3. Data Storage and Security

Test data is stored locally on your device using SQLite (native) or localStorage (web). Account data and synced test results are stored securely on AWS and Neon Postgres with encryption at rest and in transit. Our database uses Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR). Deleted data may persist in these encrypted backups for up to 7 days before being fully purged.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • AWS Cognito — Authentication and account management
  • Anthropic (Claude) — Writes personality reports from test scores, and rewrites shared reports into the third person (receives scores, type and report text, plus the test-taker's first name and gender for shared reports; never your email or account details)
  • Sentry — Crash and error reporting (user ID only, no email)
  • PostHog — Product analytics and feature flags (user ID only, no email)
  • Google AdMob — Advertising (requires consent on iOS; ad signals are managed by Google per their data retention policies)
  • Firebase — Crash reporting (not yet active)

5. Advertising and Tracking

On iOS, we request your consent via Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt before enabling ad tracking. You can decline without affecting app functionality. On Android, standard advertising identifiers may be used for ad personalization.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Opt out of ad tracking (iOS ATT prompt)
  • Request a copy of your data — email support@pocketpersonality.com

California residents: these rights are provided under the CCPA.

7. Data Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from the Settings tab in the app. This permanently removes your Cognito account, all test history and answers from our servers, and your local test data from this device. Your PostHog analytics profile is also deleted from our analytics provider. Deleted data may persist in encrypted database backups for up to 7 days before being fully purged. If you are unable to access the app to delete your account, email us at support@pocketpersonality.com and we will process your request within 45 days.

8. Children's Privacy

This service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page.
